Salon Kingsadore celebrate the release of their fifth LP, 'Instant Compositions by Salon Kingsadore' with an Exhibition and Performance at Black Asterisk Gallery, 10 Ponsonby Road, Auckland, Thursday 16th November 2017, opening at 6:30pm.

Formed in 2000 to write music for a local stage play, the Auckland ensemble has since explored instrumental psychedelic pop, adventurous surf-jazz and experimental studio music. More recently, the group has ditched pre-conceived structures in favour of a freeform, spontaneous approach. The current line-up consists of Gianmarco Liguori (guitar), Tom Ludvigson (keyboards), Hayden Sinclair (bass) and Steven Tait (drums).

Reflecting the spontaneity of the music, Instant Compositions comes in a limited edition of 100 vinyl LP records, with unique hand-printed cyanotype prints on recycled jackets and stamped / painted labels.

The event will exhibit the unique album covers, as well as a performance by Salon Kingsadore. Records will be available for sale at the gallery from 16-18 November. DON’T MISS IT!

Cyanotype
The Cyanotype process originated in the 1840s as a method of printing photographic images onto cotton-based paper, photo-sensitized with a solution of potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate. It is then exposed to an ultra-violet light source and rinsed in water with hydrogen peroxide. Printed by the group’s guitarist, Gianmarco Liguori, the imagery ties together a loose collection of ephemera, group photographs by Ronny Haynes, geometric designs by Tom Ludvigson, and illustrations by Mat Tait.

Magic in its purest form. I love Floating Points, I love Pharoah Sanders, I love The London Symphony Orchestra. It's a match made in heaven, and the result is absolutely gorgeous.
